La Savonnerie du Midi

La Savonnerie du Midi, one of the last Marseille-based companies producing Marseille soap according to the rules laid down by Colbert's Edict in 1688. In the heart of the Aygalades district, the soap is still made by the master soap-makers who have succeeded one another for over a century, around vast cauldrons. Five of these are still in use today, with capacities ranging from 10 to 20 tons. They produce soaps marketed under various brands, including La Corvette, “the benchmark for Marseille soap since 1894”.
